But why bilingualism?

Thank you for visiting my blog!

In my first post, I will only introduce what bilingualism is and why it’s important.

Growing up, I remember hearing that learning English first was a priority because learning a second language will only confuse children.  I grew up learning and using two languages, Farsi and English, and did not experience any confusion.  This is a common myth that children will be confused.  The process is actually on the contrary.  Children do not become confused, in fact, they obtain new benefits that were not available otherwise.

Bilingualism is characterized by learning and speaking two languages.  It does not necessarily have been at the same time, but just as long as the person speaks two languages.  I grew up learning two languages at the same time as a child.  Did you know that children learn much quicker than adults can?  This is defined a theory called, the critical theory hypothesis.  I will create another post about this theory.
